Cover and let rise another 30–45 minutes.
Bake at 375°F for 30–35 minutes.
Cool completely before slicing.
🌾 2. Honey Whole-Wheat Bread
Ingredients
3½ cups whole-wheat flour
1½ cups warm milk
2¼ tsp yeast
¼ cup honey
2 tbsp butter
1½ tsp salt
Mix, knead, rise, shape, and bake at 375°F for about 35 minutes. The honey gives this loaf a slightly sweet flavor and a soft crumb.
🌻 3. Whole-Wheat Seeded Bread
Add these to the classic recipe:
2 tbsp sunflower seeds
2 tbsp pumpkin seeds
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1 tbsp flaxseed
1 tbsp rolled oats
Reserve a little of the seeds for sprinkling on top before baking.
🥛 4. Soft Whole-Wheat Milk Bread
For an especially soft loaf:
3 cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup bread flour
1¼ cups warm milk
2¼ tsp yeast
2 tbsp honey
3 tbsp softened butter
1½ tsp salt
The combination of milk and butter makes this excellent for toast and sandwiches.
🍯 5. No-Knead Whole-Wheat Bread
Ingredients
3 cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour
1¾ cups water
1½ tsp salt
1 tsp instant yeast
1 tbsp honey
Mix everything until a sticky dough forms. Cover and refrigerate 8–18 hours. Shape gently, let rest for about 30–45 minutes, then bake in a preheated Dutch oven at 450°F for 30 minutes covered, followed by 10–15 minutes uncovered.
Tip: If you’re new to whole-wheat bread, replacing about 25–30% of the whole-wheat flour with bread flour can make the loaf noticeably lighter and softer.
